I was fortunate to attend the UK launch of Hunt and Brew in London.
Hunt and Brew is a ready to drink coffee, created and marketed by Brownes, one of Australia’s leading dairy producers.
Brownes is based in Western Australia, employs over 300 staff and was founded in 1886.
Hunt and Brew’s promise is simple, superb barista coffee made from just two ingredients, fresh coffee and fresh milk. No added sugars or preservatives. The brand sources single origin, specialty coffee beans from around the world made through a unique cold brew process.
In Australia the range includes a Brazil Cerrado, Colombian La Unión and a Peruvian Mocha.
According to Brownes, Barista coffee in the UK is dominated by Starbucks and Costa. Both also have retail offerings sold in the major supermarket and petrol station chains.
At the launch I met Brownes UK manufacturer amongst other commercial partners.
The launch was held in Australia house on the Strand, right in central London.
The Australian high commissioner, the Honourable Steven Smith kicked off proceedings and highlighted the importance of the recent UK-Australia free trade agreement. He commented that besides Brownes, other famous Australian brands like Tim Tams have been launched in Britain.
There is an unrequited love for Australia in the UK extending from a long history, numerous family ties as well as popular culture (Do you love “Neighbours” ??) and lifestyle aspirations. I imagine Brownes will leverage these attributes too in developing in Hunt and Brew.
Whilst Starbucks and Costa are strong, I know UK retailers are keen to engage with innovative brands, especially those who’ve proved their mettle elsewhere. Besides Australia Hunt and Brew is setting an impressive run rate in Singapore and is eyeing other international opportunities.
